Like many bloggers this is not the article i had planned for today. I felt I needed to say something about the tragic school shooting in Connecticut. I was hesitant though. I hate when people use tragedy for gain. I did not want to use this to push an agenda. In the end it was the people that are doing that that has prompted me to write this. Let me share my thoughts on this horrible shooting.
First I want to convey my deepest sorrow for the families accented by the shooting. I can not even to being to fathom their loss. I have now words to for such mindless violence.
What happened
On Friday, December 14th, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. He had three weapons stolen from his mother whom he murdered before going to the school. In the school he shot and killed 20 children and six adults. After which he shot and killed himself. Adam suffered from mental illness.
Two sides playing tug-a-war
The reaction to this crime have disgusted me. Both sides of the political sphere are trying to use the terrible deaths of children to further their own agendas. The left is crying for more gun control and the right is yelling for more guns. Neither side really gives a fuck that lives are lost! They were strategizing as the news was rolling. The internet had anti and pro gun images flying before the bodies were cold. Who does that?! What sick fuck thinks while watching the news that “I had better make a meme”. The hatred of this tendency is what forced me to write this.
The Right Side?
There is no right side in this. This was an act of violence by a mentally ill boy. In the process of committing this horrendous act he broke at least 41 laws to commit this act. How many more gun laws would be needed to stop him? If guns would as easy to get as vending machine candy bars would there be more? If everyone had a gun would there be more crime or less? Those are questions for another time. Questions that need to be answered without using innocent children to make a point. Morn the dead and keep your fucking agendas to yourself you pieces of scum.
That all I have to say for now. Sorry for the adult language but some situations call for it.
Positive notes, this is a good time to review what we each can do in our communities, online and real life, to make positive differences in people’s lives. If it means listen to people a little more, be kind to someone even when the situation does not dictate it, let people ahead of you in line and in traffic sometimes… And for the sake of all, if you see someone that looks like they are having a bad time, give them a hand.
I think we are all sad and hurt and maybe scared. Unfortunately, most of our society doesn’t know how to deal with these kind of emotions. So, they lash out and blame. I’m sorry I even got involved in a discussion about gun control that day. It didn’t feel right because it wasn’t right. The best I can do is take in the pain and send out love and compassion. I wish everyone could see that is the appropriate reaction. To me, it wasn’t just a tragic event, but a reminder to treat everyone with kindness; even something as small as making eye contact with a stranger.
I was sorry to see the political agendas crop up so quickly. Even if it was not morally wrong to even think of promoting an agenda at this time, the solutions presented are often rash and poorly thought out. Morn the poor children, provide moral support to those you love and those who are hurting and when calmer heads prevail we can look at solutions to this if there are any (and there may not be).
You are so right
I am not a gun person but even I can see gun control is not the answer. All of these crimes were commited by young men of about the same age with disturbed backgrounds. Forbidden Knowledge website has an excellent commentary about the medication some of these boys were known to be on. Some side effects are suicidal tendencies and aggression.
This is not about guns, this is about our society. We need to examine why these kids keep doing this. Why do they have no respect for life. Why do we feel that our kids need medication just to attend school?
A line has been crossed, now young children are targets. Arming teachers is not the answer. We as parents need to look in the mirror and ask what are we doing that is causing this?
Either as parents or as a society as a whole.
I agree it’s disappointing to see politicians use a tragedy such as this to further they’re agenda. I think they should focus on better protecting our nations children at school not taking away tools for defense.
