Finding Ammo and Practicing During the Shortage

Finding any ammo right now is getting harder and more expensive. I’ve  been limiting my range trips to try to keep more ammo on hand. That of course leads to not getting enough practice. It’s a viscous cycle of not finding enough ammo to shoot and to store. I’m starting to see the ammo shortage calm down a bit. My feelings are by the summer, hopefully, it will be over and we can go back to buying as normal. Until then I have a few tricks help you find ammo and to stay good with your weapons.

Recoil

Recoil Magazine

I had known about the firearms magazine Recoil many months ago and the issues they had with pissing off the entire firearms community with some anti 2nd amendment comments. I had not read it so didn’t really have a say in the whole thing. The other day I was grabbing a drink from a gas station and noticed they had the newest issue there. The cover looked great so I decided to pick it up and give it a read. The issue is number #6 and has some editorial changes to fix the issues with the anti 2nd amendment comments. I can’t speak for the previous issues or editorial staff but I’m enjoying this issue and will be talking about it today.

News Around the Web

Sometimes I like to share some of the articles I’ve read recently. One of the big ones is of course on North Korea’s threats.  Some news stories are good and some are kind of scary. I’ve heard so many rumors recently about things that It’s refreshing to see some truth. Being that my day job is in retail and we sale ammo I’ve ever heard some crazy ass shit coming from people, trying, to buy ammo. About how the government is buying it all up or forcing manufacturing down or other nonsense. The truth is people are panic buying, the ammo that comes in that would have lasted day’s to weeks before the shortage now last only hours or minutes. The last time I saw a box of .22’s come in there was literally a line coiling around the corner. Two full cases of ammo gone in minutes. It was not government agents there buying but regular folks scared and buying more than the normally would. Makes me really happy to have sold my .40 caliber handgun  for a 12 gauge 870. No shotgun shell shortages. On to the news!

Spyderco Tenacious

Spyderco Tenacious For EDC

I felt that it was time to finally replace the previously reviewed and loved Kershaw Skyline. The Blade profile was getting bad from early bad attempts at sharpening it. I had accidentally introduced a funky re-curve line in it. Secondly I felt like I wanted a blade that would be a bit bigger and be better suited for self defense. I had mainly narrowed my search down the the Spyderco line of knives. I finally made a decision, with the Spyderco Tenacious,  and a purchase and have been testing it for the past week or so. I may revisit this knife after I really put the Tenacious through it’s paces.

While the power outage didn’t last very long it was the kick in the ass I needed. The truth is that it will take longer write this article than it did to put together the system. Like I do with most things I do I tried to find the sweet spot of cheap, easy and most bang for your buck. Lets get down to building a Battery Backup!
