Survival And Diabetes

This week Mike and I discuss Survival and diabetes. With Mike recently being diagnosed with Diabetes we tackle how it can affect your survival.  We begin by defining some terms. Like what exactly is diabetes. Everyone knows someone with it yet many have no idea what it is and how it affects you.

We go on to talk about some ways to manage it not just now but in a disaster scenario. Most of the strategies focus on type 2 diabetics. There is not much to be done for a type one insulin diabetic.

We hear from listener Matt on alternatives to toilet paper. Both short term and long term. Mike and I begin by talking about a funny book by a 16th century French writer. In it he list the many things you can wipe your ass with. The top thing to wipe with is a gooseneck. The whole thing is crude and hilarious.

  1. Hi! One of your 3 female listeners here…lol. I’ve recently started a Low Carb diet to lose weight. I know you’re pretty familiar with them. I’ve heard you refer to the sweet spot with reference to ketostix. Where is the sweet spot?

I’ve also been drinking bulletproof coffee in the am with coconut oil instead of MCT. Do I have to use Dave Asprey’s coffee, or can I use regular coffee?

Can’t wait to see Mike’s progress.

    I enjoy your podcast. Thanks.

    1. Congrats on going Low Carb. And thanks for listening. The ketostix are actually pretty useless. The blood ketone meters are really great but cost prohibitive.

You can use regular coffee. I’ve heard that the mycotoxis stuff is bullshit so use decent coffee. If you can get single origin or organic is the best.

Cheat day’s can be weekly or monthly. The benefit is to keep the body from going into a starvation mode. If you can do once a month weight loss will be faster.

  2. One more thought…You said in one of your podcasts that low carb should include a re-feed day or cheat day. If I’m trying to lose weight how often do I need to have a cheat day? Is there any benefit to cheat day, other than mental?
