I’ve been hearing an awful lot about this knockout game lately and I’m can’t stand hearing about this sick game. I’m sure most of you have heard about it by now. It’s a twisted game where kid’s try to knock someone unconscious. The game should be renamed the murder game with all the lives that have been lost because of this. Not to detract from how fucked up it is to think it’s a good idea to go around attacking random people. Is this what a generation of fatherless young men think is a fun time? Were they raised by scum with no morals instilled in them? Whatever the reasons I don’t myself or any of you to be a victim. Today I’ll share some strategies that could help you avoid it.
Don’t Be There
The best way to avoid being a victim is to avoid going to place that increase your chance of being one. As Frank Sharpe Jr says:
“we don’t go to stupid places, with stupid people and do stupid things”
While violence can happen anywhere it is more likely in certain places. Reading up on it the crimes seem to most often take place in alleys and city streets. If you need me to tall you going through a dark alley alone is a bad idea you need serious help. The mall that had the 400 teens attack in New York from my research was a rowdy place to begin with. Here in the Nashville area we have a few malls known for violence and I just don’t go there. Well I try to avoid them anyway. The point is you know places that have reputations for being bad places to go so avoid them.
Bring a Friend
Several attacks happened to people that were alone. Groups tend to not be the best choice when picking a victim. Arranging your trips so you can meet up with friends could increase your chance of not being chosen for attack. If you are attacked having friends there to have your back might be the difference in surviving the encounter. If like me all your friends are gun toting survivalist even better. It’s also nice not to be a recluse and get out and be social with friends.
Be Prepared
Carrying a means of self defense and being physically prepared should be top priorities. Having lethal and non-lethal means of defense and being trained to use them is vital. If you can carry a firearm and are trained in using it for self defense I highly recommend you to do so. In addition to that a non-lethal option should be carried in addition. Carrying something like pepper spray, a taser, knife or a kubaton are all great options. If you can’t legally carry a firearm I recommend at least one of these be on you. In addition being physically fit to defend yourself or flee are absolute musts. If you are not then make plans to increase your general physical preparedness. Being fit is another tool in your survival belt. Crossfit and Paleo are helping me get closer to that everyday.
It isn’t just while you’re out an about that protection becomes essential; it is also vital on the home-front as well. Feeling safe and secure in your own home is a feeling like no other. Many Americans proudly enlist their 2nd amendment rights, having one or more firearms ready to go at a moment’s notice. Others find solace in a top-notch security system (this one is pretty cool). Whatever defenses you may deploy, your home should always be a safe place.
We can’t predict when and where violence will occur. We can only limit our chances of it finding us and be prepared to meet it when it does. Raising your situational awareness to know when to get away will help you as well. By being prepared for everything else you will be better off than most. Be aware be vigilant and most importantly be safe my friends.
