C.A.T M-4 Review

UPDATE: CONTEST CLOSED

As we continue our month of Giveaways to celebrate National Preparedness Month I have two Combat Application Tools, inc M-4  bolt and carrier cleaner for the AR /M4 platform. This come from the awesome guys at Tactical Tolerance. Not only did they donate two of these tools but later in the week I’ll have another item from them! The CAT M4 was designed for the operator to clean the bolt and carrier group to tactical tolerance quickly in the field with gloved hands. The CAT M4 has four functions. The first one is the precision machined bolt cleaner scraper that will not mar the finish. Second is the firing pin cleaner. Third you have a recessed hole that accepts  1/4″  hex head bits, so you can carry hex bolts and make adjustments easily. Lastly there is the carrier cleaner/ scraper.

m-4-features

I have never scrapped the carbon from my AR 15 since I bought it. So eight months with not carbon removal. Being a new AR owner I just cleaned it like my other weapons. I used a tooth brush with Frog Lube and just brushed the heck out of it. Until using the CAT M4 I had no idea how much carbon build up I had on there.

Using the CAT is super easy and fast. To clean the bolt carrier just slide in between the two prongs, apply a medium pressure and twist. I did that until I was not getting anymore carbon dust. Then for good measure I heated up the bolt and applied some Frog Lube and cleaned again with the CAT. Except factory fresh that was the cleanest I’ve ever seen the bolt.

Cleaning the firing pin was simple. Just drop it into the plus sign hole and twist while applying pressure. My firing pin was not (surprisingly) very dirty. I love how fast the CAT cleans what would have taken me minutes of brushing with a tooth brush was accomplished in seconds.

Patch Cloth

There is a slot in the CAT that is for running a patch cloth through to clean the bolt recess. This is another place I previously just used the tooth brush and after using the CAT and seeing how much fouling came out obviously I was not working. After that I cleaned the rest of the rifle and stored away. Using the CAT M4 easily cut 15~20 minutes of cleaning time off. I love finding time saving tools and this is great find.I’ll be picking up one to keep in the range bag. Also Tactical Tolerance if you read this you guys need to find a way to make a keyring version. I wold add a CAT M4 to my EDC the back looks like a great pry bar, plus the hex driver.

If you want one of these two CAT M4 tools this is what you have to do. First make sure are a subscriber to the Blog notifications. You can do so here. Next leave me a comment on this blog post. Third Swing over to the Tactical Tolerance Facebook Page and make sure to like them and Thanks ’em. While your on Facebook make sure to like the Survivalpunk page.
