Black Friday is over and I am finally getting some much needed rest. I also am finally getting up a review for a book I was sent back in September. Author R.P. Ruggiero contacted me during the middle of my National Preparedness Month contest and asked if I wanted to review his new book Brushfire Plague. From reading the snippets about the book I knew it was something I wanted to read. However I read slow and slammed with the contest. Once I got to about the midpoint though I couldn’t put the book down. So let’s get down to this long overdue review of the societal collapse novel Brushfire Plague.

BBC Farm Series
A few weeks ago I heard Jack from TSP mention a BBC show called Wartime Farm. The premise of the show is:
“Historian Ruth Goodman and archaeologists Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn turn the clock back to run Manor Farm in Hampshire exactly as it would have been during the Second World War”
They have to live period accurate for a year. Having to deal with the technology of the time. They show recopies, culture and farming tools/methods popular during the War years. I loved this series but what Jack didn’t mention was this is not a single show but an entire series. So far they have made: The Victorian Farm, The Edwardian Farm and Wartime farm. With an hour long Victorian Christmas special as well. Let me share some things learned from the series.
CRKT Eat’N Tool Review
I’m constantly honing my EDC key chain and was happy with the contents of it until recently. One of the most used items on my Keyring is a bottle opener. We all know that the best beers come with pop tops. After almost five years of opening hundreds of Guinness, Sam Adams, Red Strip, Yuengling and many other fine beers the soft aluminum of my free bottle opener wore out. First it became hard to open bottles, I had to really push hard to keep from slipping off the cap. So I started looking around for a replacement and this time I wanted bells ans whistles.
Show review: Revolution
I don’t watch a lot of TV and what I do is on either Netflix or Hulu. A while back a friend of mine, knowing my love of post apocalyptic fiction, told me about this show. The plot summary for Revolution via IMDB is:
“Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why? Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it? On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman’s life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously – and unbeknownst to her – had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.”
The show airs on NBC on Mondays at 10/9c and the next day on Hulu.
