Fresh Breakfast Sausage

I like breakfast meats. Bacon and sausage are some of my favorite foods. I rarely buy sausage though because they all have tons of crap in them I don’t want in there. Even some of the better brands have added sugar. I try to avoid foods with sugar and funky ingredients. I decided I would try my hands at making some homemade fresh sausage. After doing some looking around t turns out that it’s not very hard to make fresh sausage. Having a meat grinder makes the process even easier. I drove to a few stores looking for ground pork. Finally finding one last package on sale for a buck. So lets get to making some breakfast sausage.

Pumpkin Spice Rubbed Steak

Pumpkin Spice Rubbed Steak

It’s fall and that means pumpkin everything. Maybe I go overboard but I love the pumpkin spice flavor. I’m not sure why I don’t think about it any other time of the year but during the fall my mind is consumed with pumpkin spice. Last year I came up with some pretty good recipes, Pumpkin soup and bars come to mind. This year I had an idea hit me and I knew I had to try it. The mission was to make a pumpkin spice rubbed steak. To combine two of my favorite flavors together to make magic. So lets get cooking!

make ahead paleo

Mango Cilantro Chicken

I got the chance to review the new paleo cook book Make Ahead Paleo by Tammy Credicot. First off this book is gorgeous. The pictures in this book will make you so hungry. I also loved the creativity in the recipes. The book is absolutely true to paleo and has no recipes that contain grains, gluten, dairy, soy, legumes (well I think I saw a green been recipe) or cane sugar. The other big difference in this book is that it is aimed at what many of us do which is prepare meals ahead of time and freeze them. Having a healthy meal ready to go when you are hungry can be a life saver. In the book there are over 100 beautifully photographed recipes. It comes with inventory sheets to keep track of the frozen meals. Recipes for your slow cooker to have wonderful meals for you waiting at home. Recipes to take on the road and meals you can make in your hotel room, so you never have an excuse for not eating well. For many who are not great at making up dishes this book will really help you create wonderful meals ahead of time. If you’re looking for a new paleo cook book then I suggest grabbing a copy of Make Ahead Paleo when it goes on sale September 24th! Now let me share a favorite recipe from the book with you.

Thoughts On Raw Milk

I have been interested in trying raw milk for a while now. Even more so after a documentary I watched about it. I wish that it could have been an easy thing to try. Just head to the store buy a gallon and drink. Unfortunately oppressive laws here in the U.S make that very hard in most areas and impossible in others. The freshest best for you milk is very illegal and selling it could land you in prison with felony charges. Fortunately for me though my state is not completely stupid and makes it legal to buy in the form of a CSA from the farmer. So although I can’t walk into the nearest grocery store and grab some I have options. Some farmer markets in my state also sale them for pet consumption. Today I’ll tell you how I found some and what my thoughts are about it.

Cauliflower Salad

Cauliflower Faux Potato Salad

I saw on Facebook recently a link to a no-potato salad, a recipe to make knock off potato salad, using cauliflower. I’ve made mashed cauliflower for years and enjoy potato salad so I couldn’t believe I had never thought of this before. I am terrible about following recipes so I skimmed the article and decided to wing it. I used the things I had on hand to make this instead of going out for anything. If your the type to follow a recipe I’ll share mine with you, if you are not just skim and wing it too!
