Mountain Chang From Chronology

This week Mike and I welcome on Mountain Chang from Chronology. Mountain is the creator of the Primal Professional shoe. The Primal Professional fills the gap in professional minimalist footwear. Until Mountain Chang created it there wasn’t anything decent on the market. With a very ugly vibram being the only other zero drop minimal dress shoe.

I did a full review on them a few months ago Here.  After a year of use they are still my favorite pair of shoes. I’ve used them outside of work for everyday shoes and walked around a ren fair all day in them.

We talk about Mountains decision to go paleo. We dig into his training routine . Mountain is using the Wendler 5/3/1 system. A very organized and analytical way to gain strength.

We round out the show by talking about gun. Mountain bought a mossberg 500 shotgun for self protection. He talks about the how he choose that model.

Ghost Run Day By Day Armageddon 4 Review And Giveaway

Ghost Run

This Ghost Run review almost didn’t happen. Or at least this soon. I have a love hate relationship with my spam filter. Yes it saves me from weeny pills but it catches important things too. In the case being emailed by a major publisher about the newest release of my favorite zombie series it was wrong.

Ghost Run takes part in a ravaged Southern U.S dominated by hordes of Undead. While on a supplies run the main character picks up a distress call. The possibility of a cure makes him abandon returning to safety. With no turning back he leads a one-man rescue mission. Success means hope for all of humanity. Failure means the eventual end for all and joining the ranks of the undead.

 J.L. Bourne

This week Mike and I welcome Day By Day Armageddon Author  J.L. Bourne on to the podcast.  J.L. Bourne is the author of my favorite zombie book series. He has written all the books while also serving in the Navy full time.

We discuss the three previous books in the series and the newly released Ghost Run. In the series  J.L. Bourne has an unnamed character journal his personal experiences in surviving a zombie apocalypse. The majority of the series is all told from his point of view. You are basically inside his mind along for the ride. You get all of the weird and crazy thoughts that run through a person’s head.

The previous book, Shattered Hourglass, was the only departure from this format. J.L. Bourne explained it in the interview that is was to move plot points forward. I am happy for the return to a solo story. In fact a large portion of the book he is completely alone. Just Kilroy surrounded by the undead on an crazy mission.

We avoid giving away any spoilers for Ghost Run but try to convey our excitement by it. If you are like me then you hate spoilers. No spoilers sweetie. The full review of Ghost Run will be coming out this Friday and there will be a giveaway.

Survival Thriftiness

This week we have part 2 of our Survival Thriftiness series. We start out this week with a few ways to save money while traveling.

Mike talks about folding bikes to get around. They pack up small and can get you around town. To save money on hotels I mention couch surfing. Many people are willing to let you crash on their couch.  To me the least important part of traveling is where I sleep.  To this I also will find rest stops near my destination and just sleep in my car.

Mike begins the discussion on paper over plastic. Why you can save tons of money by using cash over a debit or credit card. You can see the money going away and will hesitate spending it more than with cards.

To add to using cash I mention the envelope system. It is a way to save money while ensuring bills are paid. I heard about it from some tiny housers. I used it to help save for my tiny house and to pay off my debt. I found a link to explain it much better. I will be implementing it soon and will follow up.

Have some money saving tips? Share them in the comments below. Let us know how you are saving cash and getting deals.

Survival Thriftiness

This week Mike and I discuss Survival Thriftiness. This is the first part in a two part series. In today’s podcast we talk about how to save money in the following categories. Reducing Bills, Food and Household goods.  As usual we got long winded and ran long.

A good method that we both have used is to call a service provider and haggle with them to lower your bill. If they can’t lower it you can often get incentives to stay. If they still can’t do anything for you many of their competitors will offer you a lower bill to switch. Loyalty is only good in friends and family.

We talk about buying food only when it is marked down. Making often expensive meats very affordable. I have found that local stores tend to have the best mark downs. The large box stores have pitiful price reductions. The same goes for produce. One local store often has expensive salad mixes marked down below a dollar.

When it comes to household cleaners making your own can save you a ton.

We talk about all that and much more.
