3 Reasons You’ll love Wish App For Survival Gear

Have you use the wish app for survival gear yet? Why not? I’ve mentioned it on the podcast a few times. It’s kinda like amazon for Chinese made goods.

Before you say anything about not buying chinses stuff I don’t even want to hear it. The stuff you can get locally is all Chinese made and cost more.

I would rather pay less and get the same thing.

When I first heard of the wish app I was not impressed. None of the things I was looking for at the time were on there. Of course, I was looking for Olympic weights. Not the cheapest things to send.

I mostly thought that it was for trinkets and jewelry. Being a manly man I cared not for these things.

When I actually decided to give it a try I found out how amazing the wish app is for survival gear. Since then I have made several purchases I’m happy with.

So what makes the Wish Ap for Great for Survival? Let’s dig into a few points.

Olight PL-1 II Valkyrie Review The Light Your Weapon Needs

Olight PL-1 II Valkyrie Review

I have never been a weapons light guy. No idea why not. Maybe it was simply for lack of having used one. With the Olight Pl-1 II Valkyrie (Amazon Link) things might have changed.

Used to be there were little choices in firearms lights. You had Surefire lights and junk not to be trusted. Surefire was the standard in high-quality lights. And they charged for it too.

Then companies Like Olight and Foursevens started to innovate. Whereas the Surefire rested on its laurels and overcharged.

That is why I have never owned a Surefire. And why at this time Olight is my top pick for all my flashlight needs.

Let’s get into the Olight Pl-1 II Valkyrie and why you might want to add it to your preps.

Survival Hax Self Inflating Sleeping Pad Review

The fine folks at Survival Hax sent me this self-inflating sleeping pad for review. Although sleeping pads are not as cool as some other BOB items they are one of the most important.

When I began building my first Bug Out Bag many years ago a sleeping mat was one of the first things I ever bought. For a very important reason. That reason is maintaining core body temperature and staying alive.

If you sleep on the ground or in a hammock without insulation beneath you will rapidly lose heat. Conduction is the method you loose heat on the ground.

When you come into contact with another surface heat transfer will occur. Transfer to a solid object will occur much more effectively than in air.

So to achieve the first rule of survival we have to prevent this heat loss. Sleeping pads are an effective way to accomplish this.

Quilts Vs Sleeping Bags

Want to know the secret to using a hammock in the winter? The answer leads to quilts vs sleeping bags. And that  is not even a debate in my opinion.

This infographic comes from Eagles Nest Outfitters

The problem with sleeping bags in a hammock is that the bag will compress under you. The points where the sleeping bag compresses under you will end up freezing.

Usually, it ends up being your butt and arms getting the coldest. Which is why many think a hammock as being a summer sleep system only.

To not get a  cold butt in a hammock you have a few options. You can sleep with a sleeping mat or use quilts vs sleeping bags.

I have used all these methods for staying warm in a hammock. With a sleeping mat, you will mostly stay warm. As long as the mat doesn’t move around beneath you.

Sometimes the mat will slide around on you. This will leave any part without a mat under you freezing.

Underquilts

Underquilts are definitely the way to go. With a quilt system, you won’t have to worry about compression or a mat slipping out.

The issue with quilts is in the price. Doing a quick search on amazon I found this one for $43. Many of the top ones are over $100.

There are some DIY options for under quilts. Here is one using a poncho liner. In the past I have used a poncho liner with great results.
