Flower Pot Heaters Don’t Work. In case you were thinking about making one.

Don’t!

In the past, I tried to make a clay pot heater. With Tea lights and metal bolts and all that. I tried all the variations I could find on the internet and come up.

I ran the heater an entire day in a tiny bathroom. Adding new tea lights whenever they went out.

It did not make a measurable effect on the temperature nor warm me up on the toilette.

So once again flower pot heaters don’t work. For heating at least. Unless you want to hold your hands about three inches away. Then yes they will warm your hands.

What brought up this rant video is a guest post on a blog I was reading. And left a comment on.

It was yet another post on how and why you would want to build one.

Face Palm…

The only image was one that has circulated around the web. So the writer has no idea what he is actually talking about.

I’m so sick of this being spread around. Flower pot heaters do not work. You can not heat your home, no matter how tiny, with a clay pot heater.

Even worse is when this bad info is shared by people I respect.

How Do We Lose Body Heat Conduction, Convection, And Radiation

Want to know how you lose body heat?

Heat is transferred by three ways. Conduction, Convection, And Radiation.

Right Now As I write this I’m losing body heat on my backside from Convection. Sitting in my hammock without a pad under me.

My legs are being warmed by conduction using an electric blanket.

And lastly, my tiny house is usually warmed by radiant heat provided by my Buddy Burner heater.

Just as how Conduction, Convection, And Radiation are the methods by which we lose body heat they are also how we gain warmth.

Let’s break down each of the three heat transfer mechanisms in depth.

I had a member of the Survival Punks Facebook group ask for a resource list. She had to move after a house fire and lost her preps. This will be a good post for those asking where to start.

Remembering where all the survival resources online are located is hard without them being bookmarked. And a google search will often turn up fly by night scam jobs.

Today we’re going to talk all about bug out bag documents. It is maybe the most neglected prep but one of the easiest and most important.

Bug out bag documents are all the important documents you will need in a disaster stored in a binder usually ready to go.

I’m talking about things like copies of your driver’s license, bank account numbers, and phone numbers to your local utilities.

In the event that you need to bug out, you do not want to be wasting time trying to find these documents. And you definitely do not want to be without them.

After hurricane Katrina, many were left without ID’s, insurance cards or banking access. That caused some major headaches. People could not access their bank accounts without their debit cards or Id’s.

With these bug out documents, you will have these with you. You my prepper friend do have your bug out documents ready right?

If the answer is no I’ll help get you squared away. I am by no means perfect. My own documents need to be updated. So this is a good time to go through what needs to be done.
