Defensive Driving, Car Safety And Survival | episode 133

This week we cover defensive driving. How to stay safe on the roads.

I got this question in from a listener and knew it would be a great topic.

I talk about the lesson my Uncle taught me when I was learning to drive. To treat all other drivers like idiots.

That lesson has served me well over the years. And so far without any accidents.

To implement the rule I imagine a bubble around my car and try to not let any cars in it.  I don’t tailgate nor allow myself to be tailgated.

In generally don’t like vehicles on my sides either.

I talked about using your situational awareness while driving.

Just like you would know the exits when in a restaurant know your exits while driving. And I don’t mean interstate exits.

I mean to say how you would avoid collisions, traffic jams etc.

I go on to cover what to do if your being followed and chased.

H1R Nova Unboxing. The Best Headlamp Made Better!

Previously I have reviewed a few Olight lights and loved them all. Recently I got my hands on the Olight H1R the rechargeable version of the H1 Nova Headlamp

You can pick up one at the Oficial Olight Store, Ebay, Or Amazon.

All of the things that made me love the H1 Nova have been improved upon in the H1R. Notably the ability to recharge it.

My only issue with the H1 Nova is that on the bright mode, of 500 lumens, it will use up batteries quickly. And CR123 batteries are not cheap easy to find.

I have looked in my local big box stores several times over the past few months looking for CR123 batteries. They have been sold out every single time.

I know I can order them from amazon. But In an emergency, I would like to be able to pick up some.

With the H1R Nova, the battery issue has been alleviated. You can use a rechargeable CR123 and the built in charger to recharge.

I really like that the charger is a USB cable with a magnetic cap that snaps onto the tail cap of the H1R. The cord can fit into any cell phone charger or car charger.

And you could use an USB battery pack to charge it.

I plan on buying spare rechargeable CR123 batteries and a backup charger. That way I can standardize to all rechargeable CR123s.

The H1R Nova also features 100 more lumens over the H1 Nova. You get a blinding 600 lumens at the brightest output.

You only get 3 minutes of the 600 lumens. After that, it tapers down to 180 for 80 minutes.

On the lowest setting, you can run it for 6 days.

And then you can just recharge it and go. No worrying about finding batteries.

This week I talk about changing out your bug out bag for winter. It was originally intended to be a winter and summer episode but I realized that would be a very long episode.

Depending on where you live your BoB needs to be changed out seasonaly. My preence is Winter and Summer. You can coast through spring and fall.

Krav Maga Tactical Survival Unboxing

This week I had a mystery package to open. I usually know what I’m opening. This time I had forgotten about being sent a book on Krav Maga.

Krav Maga is the official self-defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces. It has been tested and used around the globe for sixty years.

I have taken a few martial arts over the years. Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai and have had an interest in Krav Maga for several years.

From all my research it seems to be the best to quickly and safely end street fights. It was designed for that.

It also seems that the learning curve is not as high. In some martial arts it takes a long time to be able to apply your skills.

This book is filled with full-color photos to help explain the techniques.

I can’t wait to start practicing with Couch Potato Mike.

I do want to state that I do not believe you will be able to become a master with a book. But this is an excellent primer. Finding a qualified local instructor is definitely the way to go.
