Walking To Freedom? Tennessee Is A Great Choice!| episode 137

Today we tackle a listener question. The question was about walking to freedom and why Tennessee is a great choice.

Since Mike and I have lived in TN our whole lives we felt qualified to answer this question,

We begin the show with some basics on what is walking to freedom or a strategic resolution.

Many might not be familiar with the term.

The united states have many oppressive states. California, Illinois, and New Jersey all spring to mind. These states tax their citizens to death and make legally owning firearms hard at best.

For those living in these states, their is an option, though. A walk to freedom. Moving.

And luckily there are several great states to choose from.

We talk about how to pick a new state. How to determine what freedoms you care about and move to states that have them.

The last half of the podcast is about Tennessee specifics. TN belongs on any list of free states. Hopefully, I’ll have a few more freedom loving neighbors after this podcast.

Going Off The Grid By Gary Collins First Thoughts

This week I got my hands on my friend Gary Collings New book, Going Off The Grid. Unlike most of my u

Unlike most of my unboxing videos, I wasn’t sent this book. You always want to support your friends so I bought this copy as soon as It was available.

Like many of us, Gary got the bug to live a simpler life. And luckily for us, he has documented the whole process.

In Going Off The Grid: The How-To Book Of Simply Living and Happiness, he provides a step-by-step guide for how to find a private piece of land and build a self-sustaining home.

This doesn’t come from research alone but from experience. Gary has been building an off-grid home in northeast Washington state.

You can watch some of the trials and tribulations on his Youtube channel.

Learning from others troubles can save you time and money. And from honest upfront people.

If you watch many of the DIY tv shows you will have an unrealistic view of the process. Building an off grid home takes a lot of time and effort.

The reward is worth it, though.

So if you are thinking about living a simpler less hectic lifestyle this is the book for you. Pick it up now before you need the info in here.

Are you off the Grid? Wanting To Be? Let me know about your plans in the comments!

How To Keep Entertained During A Disaster |episode 136

This week we cover How To Keep Entertained During A Disaster. Listener Matt called in asking about how to stay entertained during a disaster. Especially for those of you with kids

Instead of telling Matt we covered this topic 100 podcasts ago we decided to tackle it again with fresh eyes.

We break it down to bugging out and bugging in. With bugging in

With bugging in you have the option of much bigger games and some powered options.

When trying to stay entertained during a disaster, board games are your friends. Mike and I talk about a few of our favorites.

We even bring up the cursed Monopoly. Which is either a love or a hate game. With me, it has become a hated game.

A game that I love to play is Settlers of Catan. Which is very fun and un monopoly like. Set up takes a bit but then gameplay is fun.

Cam from the Facebook group suggested the game Pathfinder. It is similar to Dungeons & Dragons. Any of the games like that would be great during a disaster.

Setting Skills Goals For The Year And How To Learn Fast | episode 135

This week Jeff from the lost skills podcast joins me to talk about skills. More specifically how to learn them fast.

As per expected, we chase many rabbits and banter.

We cover many techniques to quickly learn new skills.

To begin with, we talk about setting skill-based goals for the year. And to make them smart goals.

To be a smart goal it has to be timely, measurable and achievable.

Do not set a goal to become a master woodworker this week. You will fail. Miserable.

I like to set goals in quarterly intervals. So every three months. And to make them small and attainable.

In my case since I do want to get into woodworking, I want to learn the dovetail joint this quarter.

To measure my success I have to have a decent dovetail joint at the end of the quarter.

We cover many ways to learn new skills quickly in this podcast.

Shout Out to Kate for doing the opening this week.

How To Make Bug Out Caches And Resupply Trips | episode 134

Mike returns to the podcast this week and we discuss  Bug Out Caches and resupply trips.

Just to define a cache real fast.

cache
kaSH/
noun
  1. 1.
a collection of items of the same type stored in a hidden or inaccessible place.
    “an arms cache”

verb
  1. 1.
store away in hiding or for future use.

Now that you know what a cache is you can see why we would want a  Bug Out Caches.

In our case as preppers having extra stores away from our main preps just makes sense.

Most Bug Out Bags are built to work for 72 hours. What happens if you need more supplies?

With caches, you can even carry less weight initially.
