A Tribute To Ron Hood | episode 267

Today’s episode is a bit different, it’s a tribute to survivalist Ron Hood. Ron passed away June 22, 2011. It may seem odd to make a tribute to a man who died 13 years ago. But only if you haven’t followed his work.

I sadly never got to meet Ron. I only knew him from his vast body of work. His videos, magazines, and podcast appearances.

Video Series

Ron put out 16 DVDs with his wife Karen, 12 in the Woodsmaster Series and 4 in their cavecooking series. Both of these series are great. I might only be missing one in my collection. The last of the cavecooking video. This series presents the special skills that can make your time in the wilderness more enjoyable, safer and make you far more confident. The videos are hosted by Ron Hood who will show you many interesting and important wilderness living and survival skills. The presentation of these skills is enhanced with clear explanation, great photography and many of the special “little tricks” that few but the most experienced Woodsmaster will ever know.

Magazine

The magazine follows the video series in that the first issue is an oddity that doesn’t start with spark-based fire. The rest follow with shelter building and survival kits and so on. While researching this podcast I realized I don’t have all the magazines and will be getting them.

Military Authorized To Use Lethal Force | Episode 266

Join me today as I discuss whether the military is authorized to use lethal force on US citizens. If you read DOD DIRECTIVE 5240.01 to sum it up the answer would be yes.

I saw this pop-up on YouTube and knew I had to cover this. However, this directive is an update to an earlier one. The big difference from that one is the word lethal was added.

In this episode, I discuss why the government would want to do this.  However what reason would they have for needing the authorization to use lethal force on its citizens? The answer is civil unrest up to and including Civil War. As a result, the government is worried about violence.

The left already loves to commit violence with their fiery but mostly peaceful protests. The right so far has been actually peaceful. Them just walking in the open doors at the capitol led to the “Worst Day In American History”.

Above all as the election draws near I urge everyone to avoid any major cities. There is going to be violence regardless of the outcome. Don’t even think about going to any rallies or protests. In short please don’t give the government an opportunity to use its new ability to use lethal force on its citizens.

Build Your EDC Kit Right | episode 265

Welcome to our latest podcast episode, where we dive deep into the world of Everyday Carry (EDC). Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or just starting to build your EDC kit, this episode will cover practical solutions to common problems and offer ideas on essential items to carry.

Troubles with Pocket and Keychain Carry

One of the biggest challenges with EDC is finding the balance between being prepared and not overloading your pockets or keychain. It’s easy to end up with bulging pockets that make movement uncomfortable or a keychain that resembles a janitor’s ring. The key is to prioritize and streamline your essentials. Opt for multi-functional items that combine tools, like a keychain multitool or a compact knife with multiple features. This helps reduce bulk while ensuring you have what you need on hand.

Fanny Packs: An EDC Game-Changer

If you’ve struggled with pocket carry, consider upgrading to a fanny pack. While once seen as a fashion faux pas, fanny packs have made a strong comeback. They allow you to comfortably carry more items without overstuffing your pockets. Look for packs designed with EDC in mind, featuring multiple compartments to keep your gear organized. They’re a great way to carry larger items, like flashlights or compact firearms, that might otherwise be cumbersome in your pockets.

Essential EDC Items

When it comes to EDC, versatility is key. Consider carrying a lighter, even if you don’t smoke—it’s useful for various tasks, from sealing ropes to starting fires in emergencies. A pocket knife is another must-have, offering utility for everything from opening packages to self-defense. Compact flashlights are great for finding your way in the dark and can double as a tool for self-defense. For those who prioritize personal protection, carrying a firearm in a safe and legal manner can offer peace of mind.

Tune in to our podcast for more tips on building your ideal EDC kit and insights into finding the right balance between preparedness and practicality.

Medical Preps For SHTF | episode  264

When preparing for a potential SHTF  scenario, one crucial area that’s often overlooked is medical preparedness. Having enough medication and supplies to manage health conditions is essential, as access to pharmacies and healthcare might be limited or nonexistent. Here are some key tips for building up your medical preps.

Talk to Your Doctor About Getting Extra Medication

One of the best ways to prepare is by discussing your concerns with your doctor. Ask them about getting extra prescriptions for essential medications, explaining that you want to be prepared for emergencies. However, some doctors are willing to prescribe an extra month’s supply, especially if you have a stable, long-term condition. This will give you a buffer if you’re unable to refill your prescriptions during a crisis.

Lose Weight to Get Off Medications

Moreover, for those who are on medication for conditions like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol, losing weight can be a game-changer. Improving your health through diet and exercise may help you reduce or even eliminate the need for certain medications, making you less dependent on external supplies. Not only will this improve your overall health, but it will also reduce the number of medications you need to stockpile.

Consider Online Stores Like Jase Medical for Antibiotics

For example, there are also online resources to help you build your medical preps. For example, stores like Jase Medical offer emergency antibiotic kits that can be purchased legally and delivered directly to your home. These kits include common antibiotics that can be used to treat a variety of infections, providing peace of mind if you can’t access a doctor. While antibiotics are powerful tools, it’s important to use them responsibly and consult a healthcare professional on how and when to use them.

Above all, proper medical preparedness requires a combination of planning, lifestyle changes, and smart shopping. Start today to ensure you and your family are ready for whatever comes your way.

Yard Sales For Survival Gear | episode 263

Join me today as I discuss how Yard sales can be a treasure trove for those who love to hunt for bargains, especially when it comes to finding survival gear. Whether you’re preparing for outdoor adventures or building up your emergency supplies, yard sales offer a unique opportunity to find what you need at a fraction of the price you’d pay in stores. Here are some reasons why yard sales are perfect for bargain hunters and survivalists alike.

Finding Survival Gear

Yard sales often feature a variety of items, including camping gear, tools, backpacks, and other equipment that can be repurposed for survival needs. You might stumble upon useful items like multi-tools, water containers, tents, or even outdoor clothing. Many people sell these items after decluttering their homes or upgrading their equipment, so you can find quality gear that’s barely been used. It’s also a great way to discover older, durable tools that aren’t easy to find in stores anymore.

Cheaper Prices

One of the best things about yard sales is the price. Unlike retail stores, where prices are fixed, yard sale prices are often flexible. Sellers are usually motivated to clear out space, so they’re willing to negotiate. This means you can walk away with excellent deals on items that would normally cost significantly more. Plus, you can pick up a variety of supplies for a low overall cost, especially if you’re buying in bulk.

No Taxes

Unlike shopping in retail stores, there are no taxes at yard sales. What you see is what you pay, which can be a huge bonus when you’re buying multiple items. Every penny saved can add up, especially if you’re working on a tight budget. This tax-free benefit makes yard sales a great option for anyone looking to save money on essential gear.

So, the next time you see a yard sale sign, take a moment to stop and browse. You never know what survival essentials or bargains you might find!
